HVAC services in Novato, CA
Heating and cooling for Novato, the warmest corner of Marin, where air conditioning earns its keep.
Hotter summers than the rest of Marin
Novato sits at the north end of the county, away from the fog that cools southern Marin. Summer afternoons here run much hotter than in Sausalito or Mill Valley, so air conditioning works hard in many Novato homes from June through September.
That puts more wear on outdoor units and makes sizing matter. An undersized system runs all afternoon and never catches up. An oversized one cools fast, shuts off and leaves the house clammy. We size new systems for the house you actually have.
Homes from every decade
Novato grew quickly from the 1950s through the 1970s, and neighborhoods like San Marin, Ignacio and Indian Valley are full of ranch homes and split-levels from that era. Many still have original ducts, and some have older air conditioners that use R-22, a refrigerant that is no longer produced in the US. Recharging one is expensive, so that is often the point where replacement makes sense.
Newer neighborhoods like Hamilton, built on the former air force base, have newer systems that mostly need maintenance and the occasional repair.
Good to know
Is it worth repairing an old R-22 air conditioner?
Sometimes, if the repair is small and does not need refrigerant. If the system is low on refrigerant, recharging R-22 is costly because it is no longer produced. That is usually the time to compare a new AC or a heat pump.
What size air conditioner does my Novato home need?
It depends on the house, not just the square footage: insulation, windows, which way it faces and how the ducts are laid out. We do a proper load calculation before recommending a size.
How much does heating or AC repair cost in Novato?
Costs vary by the issue and the system, which is why we give you a clear, upfront estimate before any work begins. No hidden fees or surprises.
